Helpful Tips to Make Website Promotion Effective

12th May 2006

Having the website professionally designed is not enough to have traffic in the website. In fact, no one can appreciate the design of the website if it has no visitors. What is actually needed is website promotion. The success of a website promotion usually begins during the design of the web pages. The technical aspect must be checked for appropriateness.

Then, this must be followed by an effective search engine submission. This means that if the website was not properly or effectively submitted, there may be no promotion at all. To help the web owners and web developers, here are several tips that will surely increase the chances of success of the website promotion.

  • The Meta tags should be relevant – The first step is to research and study the competitors of the website. After studying, the web developers should form a list of relevant keywords for the Meta tags. These keywords should be found in the title and website description. Some website gurus believed that having relevant Meta tags is the most crucial step in website promotion.
  • The relevant keywords should be in the content – This means that the relevant keywords embedded in the Meta tags should be found again in the contents of the website, particularly in their headings and first paragraphs.
  • The relevant keywords should also be in the alt tags – Several search engines include the alt tags in their index. This means that the relevant keywords should also be placed in the image alt tags. In fact, website experts advise that the relevant and crucial keywords should be placed in the following: title, description, content, ad alt tags. This ultimately leads to an increase in keyword density, which in turn, moves up the website’s ranking with the search engines. Such is considered the “golden rule” to achieve effective search engine submission.
  • There should be doorway pages – The doorway pages refer to web pages that have a relatively high keyword density. Such pages will be detected by search engines, and will be placed high in the listing. With a higher rank, Internet users will likely click on the link to these doorway pages. Then, from these doorway pages, the Internet user can be led to the homepage of the website.
  • The whole website should be ready – This implies that incomplete or partially done websites will never have high rankings, especially in human-powered search engines, or search directory. A website which is 100% complete will have better chances of being ranked high in directories.
  • Special symbols should be removed in the URL – The web developers should refrain from placing unusual symbols in the universal resource locator of the website. Some examples of these symbols are &, %, $, ?, and =. These symbols are unintelligible to Search engines.
  • Spamming is self-destructive – Spamming involves several methods. One is to have machine-generated doorway pages, which have no real value because there is no content. Another is to have keywords that are needlessly repeated. And another is to have invisible text in the web page. These methods will only label the website as a spam site. And search engines ignore spam sites.
  • And lastly, keep the original name of the URL after the website has been submitted – When the name of the URL is changed, the link listed in search engines will become dead links. Obviously, this is a deterrent to the promotion of the website.
